I have particular memories of my mom cutting these fruit and carrying either a plate of cantaloup or a bowl of watermelon into the living room for dessert. Any leftovers that happened to survive would get covered with tinfoil in the fridge...though I always hated how cold they got!
I've noticed that everyone slices these fruit differently. My mom always cuts them into moons and then runs the knife perfectly between the rind and the flesh. I do the same :).
